Case Study – Multi Award Winning 8 Partner Hertfordshire and London Firm

The Issue

This client of Horizon Outsourcing is a multi-award winning, 8 partner accounting firm based in South West Hertfordshire and London. Supporting a wide range of client industries, the firm’s focus is on delivering outstanding service and proactive advice. With a team of 45 staff, the firm is highly respected and has won many awards.

As part of its 5-year strategic plan, the partners recognised the challenges of continued growth whilst remaining cost
effective and managing peak capacity. With technology increasingly cloud-based, the firm wanted to capitalise on the
opportunities achievable through outsourcing compliance work, instead of recruiting more staff in the UK.

The Solution

Following discussions with Horizon Outsourcing’s UK team, they decided to undertake a 3-month pilot in order that it
could evaluate the long-term benefits of outsourced support for its year-end accounts preparation. Utilising Digita Suite, for the production of the financial statements and Pro Audit for the generation of the working papers, Horizon Outsourcing’s operations team in Mumbai worked closely with the firm’s team to develop a collaborative approach with regular, proactive communication.

Beyond the pilot, work volumes have increased, and communication settled into a weekly call which includes work
planning. The Mumbai team have direct access into the firm’s systems, and both they and Horizon Outsourcing use
Microsoft Teams to enhance collaboration.

The Impact

The last 18 months have seen work volumes increase, closer collaboration, and work turned around in an efficient and
timely manner, with any client queries resolved easily. In November 2019 one of the partners visited Horizon
Outsourcing’s team in Mumbai to review work to date, and discuss other potential areas for support, including
bookkeeping and the transition of software from Digita to CCH. Going forward, this increased range of services are
likely to be supported through a dedicated team of staff based in Mumbai, thereby optimising the economies of scale
possible through an outsourced arrangement.
